Want to really meet the designers? Come to the annual preview gala on July 17 where you can meet the designers and enjoy food from the Green Monkey/Brazo, drinks, and live music! Accent will also be announcing our 2009 best of award winners so it should be an exciting and fun time. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased by calling the Museums of Old York at 207-363-4974.

In the six weeks leading up to the show house opening, you’ll also be hearing from the designers on Accent’s blog, where they will share updates on how their rooms are coming along, what inspires them, what challenges they face, and anything else that comes to mind. If you’ve ever visited a show house, I think you will enjoy hearing from the designers as they get ready for opening day on July 18. The list of designers and their rooms is below.

TMS Architects & Blue Sky Restaurant

Chef Lydia Shire Blue Sky
This November TMS Architects announced in a press release the successful opening of one of their design projects, Blue Sky on York Beach, a year-round restaurant located on the second floor of the 25,000 square foot renovated Atlantic House, an historic York Beach landmark that TMS has been working on for several years.

The restaurant is a collaboration between world-renowned chef, Lydia Shire and York Beach real estate developers, Don Rivers and Harold Anderson. Lydia Shire’s influence is felt throughout the restaurant, from the dramatic chocolate brown walls, off-white furniture and personal pieces of artwork. Working together, Lydia Shire and TMS Architects have designed the restaurant to be a casual place to relax with a see-through fireplace, expansive windows and an outdoor veranda featuring ocean views. The menu is tailored to the tastes of a seafront community with traditional fare such as lobsters, steamers and steak.

I’ve stopped by the restaurant with Janet Hale and her fiance to enjoy the bar. The atmosphere is quite chic and comfortable, the perfect place to impress friends with your good taste.

garden event

Pettengill Farm EventHere’s a neat event for gardeners - Pettengill Farm in Salisbury Mass, among other fun summer events, is hosting a Sultry Summer Soiree & Garden sale on July 26th. ACCENT (moi included!) will be there with our blue-bells on to enjoy the live music and hors d’oeuvres and refreshments. I’ve been to the farm and it’s just lovely, filled with everything to make even the most amateur of gardeners positively drool.

And you know I’ll be taking advantage of the 20% off sale happening that night. BYOB, rain or shine. See you there!

for his adoring fans…

JuneauOkay, okay, for all his adoring fans, I’m posting a photo of the second most important male in my life, Juneau. Look closely, he’s the one napping in the snow. The 10 year-old oversized bedwarmer is my personal interior designer; preferred upholstery cover is snow white hair. everywhere. But who can resist a face like that? And his design services are only the cost of food, water, three walks a day, chews, and the occasional high-pitched squeaky toy. Such a deal! he even keeps my lawn fertilized for me.

Just in - a friend of mine just won an all-expense paid trip to the Azores. For those of you who don’t know where that is (like me) that’s down near Portugal. She and her husband can go anytime they want, though of course now the kids are all excited and there is no way they are going to let them go with out them. I guess it pays to donate early and often to your local public radio station! I’m hoping she’ll pick me up some samples of the traditional fabrics they make down there (hint hint), Google tells me the artists are vibrant part of the country and produce some stunning materials.

Now that she’s on a winning streak my friend has ALREADY bought raffle tickets for the March 24th Kitchen, Food and Wine Auction that’s happening at South Church in Portsmouth, a MUST-attend event. (www.southchurch-uu.org) Apparently she’s hoping to win the trip to Italy as well. Hope springs eternal. I’m going to give her a run for it. Last time Tim and I went to Italy the Pope died and Rome was flooded with so many people I could hardly move without running into another American. (However, in Orvieto I found some phenomenal plates that I hung in the kitchen of my last house) I digress - The auction is for a good cause so mark your calendar to join us, I’m sure my friend won’t mind a little competition in the raffle box. :)

great recipes

macncheeseIf you love to eat, you MUST try the recipes offered by Stonewall Kitchen co-owners Jonathan King and Jim Stott. I made this macaroni and cheese and it was quick, easy, and better than anything you can buy. Find it in the Food & Drink recipes.
